Sri Lanka introduces new visa system

Sri Lanka has replaced its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system with a new eVisa system and a higher price tag.

The price for a standard tourist visa has increased by 50%, from US$50 (R955) to $75 (R1 430). The price of a two-year multiple-entry tourist visa has risen to $300 (R5 725) and business visas now cost $73 (R1 395).

Other changes to Sri Lanka’s visa system include exemptions for Singaporean, Maldivian, Czechian, and Seychellois nationals.

The new eVisa website is operated by IVS-GBS and VFS Global. Applicants must create an account on the new website, where they can fill out the application form, attach necessary documents and complete payment. Applicants can also track the status of their application through the portal.

The price changes and new system came into operation on April 17.
