Taiwan will increase its cap on weekly international arrivals from 50 000 to 60 000 and replace the requirement for PCR test results for arrivals with rapid antigen tests from September 29. The requirement to quarantine at a hotel for three days and avoid crowded areas for the following four days remains, but Taiwan will likely end mandatory quarantine altogether on October 13, according to Nikkei Asia.
Cabinet Spokesperson, Lo Ping-cheng, told a media briefing on September 22 that the new measures would allow the public to fully return to normal life, for Taiwan to open its doors to welcome back tourists, and for all industries to be more active and prosperous.
“This is the last mile in our fight against the pandemic,” Ping-cheng added, according to Simple Flying.
The visa-exempt entry scheme to Taiwan will also be fully reinstated for eligible countries – but South Africa is not one of these nations at present.
