The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advisory for travellers to Thailand, following recent reports of an increase in sexual assaults in the country.
“Violent sexual assaults and unprovoked attacks have been reported in tourist destinations across Thailand. These are particularly common during Full Moon parties and other similar events and late at night near bars,” reads the updated advice on the FCDO website.
Full Moon parties are all-night electronic music festivals on the island of Ko Pha-ngan. Since 1985, they have been held around the time of the full moon every month. Drink spiking and drug-assisted sexual assault have been reported as well, among both male and female victims.
