New Berlin Airport train
A new train route will connect Berlin’s main station to Berlin Airport and Dresden from December.
The Berlin-Dresden railway line will cut travel time from the main station to the airport to 20 minutes, and reach Dresden in under two hours, according to The Berliner.
Spain plans new night train network
Spanish rail operator Renfe plans to connect major European cities with a new night train network.
According to The Portugal News, the proposed routes include:
- Madrid-Paris
- Barcelona-Lyon
- Barcelona-Marseille
- Madrid-Milan
- Barcelona-Rome
- Madrid-Berlin
- Barcelona-Munich
- Madrid-Brussels
- Barcelona-Amsterdam
- Madrid-Lisbon
Virgin secures trains for cross-Channel operations
Virgin Trains is finalising a £500 million deal (R11,9bn) with train manufacturer, Alstrom, to take delivery of 12 high-speed trains for proposed cross-Channel services, set to start in 2030.
According to the International Rail Journal, all trains will be approved and fitted with relevant safety and signalling systems for use in the UK, the Channel Tunnel, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Virgin’s submission included a service schedule for approval that included 20 daily return services from London – 13 to Paris, four to Brussels, and three to Amsterdam.
