Hokkaido launches tourist trains
Japan’s Hokkaido Railway Company will launch two new tourist trains in Hokkaido in 2027.
The Red Star will debut in February 2027 to align with the drift ice season along the Sea of Okhotsk with a two-day round trip between JR Sapporo and Abashiri stations. From April to July the route will run between JR Kushiro and Shiretoko-Shari.
According to Asahi, the train can accommodate around 100 passengers and includes private and semi-private compartments, as well as a lounge and a tearoom.
The Blue Star will operate between Asahikawa and Furano stations and carry around 200 passengers. It will be equipped with box seats and each car will feature observation seats.
New Dallas airport train
A new Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) service will connect Dallas and Dallas Fort-Worth International Airport from October 25.
DART’s Silver Line will link Plano, Richardson, Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, and Grapevine with the airport’s Terminal B.
The line includes connections to the Orange and Green Lines, as well as bus routes throughout the region’s northern suburbs.
Another operator to connect London and Glasgow
Budget rail company, Lumo, will launch direct trains between London and Glasgow by the end of the year.
Currently the route is serviced by Avanti West Coast.
Lumo will extend its existing London King's Cross-Edinburgh services to Glasgow after plans for the new route were approved by the Office of Rail and Road.
Two northbound services and one southbound service will operate between London King’s Cross and Glasgow on weekdays, with one service in each direction on Sundays.
