Edinburgh's Visitor Levy came into effect on July 24, making it the UK's first city-wide visitor levy scheme.
A 5% fee now applies to the cost of all paid overnight accommodation in the city. The fee is capped at the first five consecutive nights of a stay and is charged at the same rate throughout the year.
The scheme was agreed in January 2025 and applies to bookings made from October 1, 2025, for stays from July 24, 2026.
The levy is expected to generate up to £50 million (R1,1 billion) annually, with the funds earmarked for projects focused on destination and visitor management, culture, heritage and events, as well as improvements to city infrastructure and services.
