Train travel round up

British Pullman to launch dining train

Early in the Northern summer this year, the British Pullman, a Belmond train, will launch a new private dining and events carriage, Celia, imagined and designed by visionary filmmaker, Baz Luhrmann, and, Oscar-winning costume and production designer, Catherine Martin.

Celia will depart from London's Victoria Station across all British Pullman journeys, offering travellers an exclusive entertainment venue, with the opportunity to personalise both onboard and offboard experiences.

Seating up to 12 guests, the carriage features a customisable dining area, a lounge and bar, as well as pantry and kitchen. On request, a private chef will design customised menus.

Brazil plans Rio-São Paulo high-speed train

Brazil is planning a new high-speed train to connect Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in under two hours, with a possible extension to Campinas.

Trem de Alta Velocidade (TAV) will reach speeds of 350kph and reduce the trip between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to about one hour and forty-five minutes.

Initial plans for the project include four main stations between the two cities, with stops in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, São José dos Campos and Volta Redonda. Further stops will be added if Campinas is included on the route.

The line will be developed by TAV Brasil, a private company that received authorisation from the National Land Transport Agency to plan, build and operate the service.

Commercial service is expected to commence in 2032.
