Japan adds Supreme Class to bullet trains
Japan’s bullet train network will introduce a new premium class from October, offering private cabins on services linking Tokyo with Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Fukuoka.
According to Japan Guide, the new Supreme Class is expected to launch on October 1, initially operating around six round trips per day, with services expected to increase gradually.
The class will feature two private cabin types: a double cabin for up to two passengers priced at JPY61 000 (R6 155). The second passenger is required to pay only the base fare and limited express fee. A single-passenger cabin is priced at JPY42 000 (R4 235). Facilities include reclining seats, lockable doors and dedicated luggage space.
Planned onboard features include Wi-Fi, seat speakers compatible with personal devices and a tablet control system for adjusting air-conditioning, lighting and train announcements.
Selected food and beverages, including coffee, tea, alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and sweets, will be included in the fare.
New Cumbria travel pass
Northern Trains Limited, a UK train operator in the north of England, has introduced a new Cumbria travel pass in partnership with regional transport operators. The offer provides unlimited travel on participating trains, buses and boat services for £40 (R845) for a one-day pass or £99 (R2 145) for a three-day pass.
Children travel for half-price and under-5s travel free.
The pass is valid on Northern, TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast services on selected routes, as well as Stagecoach buses and Windermere Lake Cruises, making it easier to explore Cumbria and the Lake District.
Tickets can be purchased on the day or in advance from ticket offices, ticket vending machines or online.
After purchase, travellers receive a link to activate the pass and select travel dates, which must be within 11 months of purchase. The digital pass must be presented to staff on request during travel.
