Scotland’s national transport agency Transport Scotland is eyeing cross-channel services on the Caledonian Sleeper.
According to Timeout UK, a working group has been formed to assess the possibility of a direct route to mainland Europe.
Transport Scotland is looking at options to run the Caledonian Sleeper from Scotland to London, and then through the Channel Tunnel to European cities like Paris or Amsterdam.
The Caledonian Sleeper already operates between London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Highlands.
Finland-Sweden services resume
Passenger train services between Finland and Sweden resumed this week after 38 years.
The new, twice-daily journey travels along Finland’s west coast before crossing the border to Sweden.
The trains depart Oulu, Finland, and arrive in Haparanda, Sweden, after a journey of around one hour and 40 minutes. The route also stops in Kemi and Tornio (Finland).
Trenitalia orders new high-speed trains
FS Italiane Group has ordered 19 new high-speed trains to support its growth plan in France and cross-channel services between Paris and London.
The new trains will allow Trenitalia France to strengthen its presence on the Paris-Lyon, Paris-Milan and Paris-Marseille routes and will also form part of the fleet for the cross-channel connection between Paris and London, which will launch in 2029.
