Turkey launches nighttime attraction programme

Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism is launching a programme that will see the country’s top attractions remain open into the night. This is to reduce overcrowding and allow tourists to visit during cooler hours in the peak summer tourism season.

The launch of the programme follows a successful trial period in summer 2024.

Between June 1 and October 1, about 27 historic and cultural attractions will remain open to the public late into the night, only closing at 21h00 and in some cases as late as 23h00.

The programme includes classical music performances under the stars in the lit-up ruins of Ephesus, one of the country’s most renowned Unesco World Heritage Sites.

The Istanbul Archaeological Museum, Hagia Sophia, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts and Galata Tower will also remain open until 23h00.
