UNWTO barometer shows good MEA recovery

Where are we in the global tourism recovery?

If the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s stats are anything to go by, the percentage of international tourist arrivals between January and July 2023 compared with the same period in 2019 is showing gains on previous losses. However, at this stage, the recovery is regional, with the Middle East showing international arrivals for the first half of this year are 100% of 2019’s levels, and Africa’s at 92% of the 2019 figure. Meanwhile, international arrivals to Asia Pacific for January-July 2023 are only 61% of where they were in 2019.
