The US Department of Transport has officially withdrawn the Biden administration’s proposal to implement standardised compensation for passengers facing flight delays.
The rule would have required airlines to compensate US$200-$300 (R3 535-R5 305) for domestic delays of at least three hours and up to $775 (R13 705) for longer delays, as reported by Travel News.
The Department said it would allow airlines to compete on the services and compensation that they provide to passengers rather than imposing minimum requirements through regulation, as it would impose significant costs on airlines and potentially consumers.
