US simplifies entry rules

12 Nov 2021
Comments | 0

New, simplified rules for travellers to the US commenced on Monday, November 8, as the country fully opened its borders.

The new rules replace the country-by-country restrictions, and have moved to the basis of vaccination status determining entry rules.

The new requirements for all passengers are listed below:

All passengers who are not US citizens or lawful permanent residents of the US must have:

a.         Proof of vaccination

All those aged 18 and over must show proof of vaccination (there are limited exceptions). Acceptable vaccines are:

•          Single-dose Janssen/Johnson&Johnson

•          2-dose series: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covishield, BIBP/Sinopharm and Sinovac.

US citizens and lawful permanent residents are not required to be vaccinated.

b.        Test result

All travellers of 18 years and over (2-17 years to follow the accompanying adult’s status) must provide a negative result (NAAT or Antigen) prior to departure, from a test conducted within the three days before departure, or documentation of recent recovery from COVID-19. Unvaccinated (US citizens and permanent residents) must provide this negative result before departure, from a test taken within one day of departure.

c.         Contact tracing

All travellers have to submit contact tracing information and attest that the information they provide related to their vaccination status, test results and personal information is accurate. This information must be submitted to the airline before entering the country.
