Virgin – SA flights to stay

Virgin Atlantic has announced it will be flying daily between Heathrow and Johannesburg when travel restrictions are lifted, and a seasonal Cape Town service is planned to launch in October.

The flights between Johannesburg and London will restart on the airline’s newest aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000, which features a new Upper Class suite, an improved Premium cabin, and new in-flight entertainment systems throughout the aircraft.

Last year, Virgin Atlantic announced its plan to reinstate the popular Cape Town-London Heathrow service as part of its winter 2020 schedule. It remains committed to relaunching the seasonal route in October, pending travel restrictions being lifted.

The Cape Town-London Heathrow flight will operate daily using the B787 Dreamliner with 31 Upper Class, 35 premium and 192 economy seats. It will depart Cape Town at 08h00, arriving in Heathrow at 18h00. The return flight will depart Heathrow at 16h20 and arrive Cape Town at 05h55 the following day.

Juha Jarvinen, chief commercial officer of Virgin Atlantic, said: “We have taken the opportunity to pause, reflect and reshape our 2021 flying programme looking at efficiencies in our fleet and connectivity across our network, to ensure it is fit for the future, flying to the destinations we know our customers love to fly.”
