Virtual airline plans London-Harare flights

A UK-based carrier, Fly Phoenix Direct Limited plans to launch direct charter flights between the UK and Zimbabwe by June.

The airline is a virtual-based company founded by Zimbabwean-born Jephius Chitokomere, and was registered on February 5, 2024. Weekly charter flights are planned to begin this northern summer season using an A330-200.

Flights will depart from London and fly overnight to Harare, returning to London the following night. The airline has not disclosed which London airport will be used for the flight.

The carrier said: “Staff come from diverse backgrounds and are mostly made up of the UK diaspora. Some of us are doctors, and others are pilots for big airlines like British Airways.”

It added that 10% of the company’s profits would be allocated to Zimbabwean-based charities.

Chitokomere assured the local Telegraph Zw news platform that the necessary clearances from aviation authorities in Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom had been granted.

“The entity supplying the aircraft will handle most of the operational matters. They have previously obtained airport clearance in Zimbabwe and have experience in this regard,” said Chitokomere.

The airline has not yet disclosed its operational partner responsible for the aircraft.
