Construction of the world’s largest man-made wave pool will go ahead in Abu Dhabi, with plans to open at the end of this year. It is part of the masterplan to develop Hudayriyat Island as a tourist destination.

“Surf Abu Dhabi will be the biggest and most advanced artificial wave facility in the world. The landmark destination will offer a high-performance surfing experience, featuring the world’s longest ride, biggest barrel, and largest man-made wave pool,” said Modon Properties, which is developing the area.

The exclusive surfing complex will accommodate beginner, amateur and pro surfers, and is anticipating to soon play host to international surf competitions.

Surf Abu Dhabi will cover 51 million square metres.

Other attractions on the island will include an urban park covering 2,25 million square metres, with cycling tracks, mangrove walks, eco-farming space, restaurants, bars and playgrounds. A velodrome equipped with a UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track and a rooftop track will be constructed in 2025.
