France and Germany are to give away 60 000 train tickets to young travellers in celebration of the 60thanniversary of the Elysée Treaty.
According to Euronews, half the tickets will be available in France and the other half in Germany. Travellers under the age of 27 will be able take a train from one country to the other and then travel around that country while they are there.
The tickets, which can be used during Europe’s 2023 summer season, will be made available to the general public, including tourists, later this year, reports Travel Pulse. Those hoping to take advantage of the scheme will likely need to enter a lottery for the tickets.
The scheme, which will be financially supported by national rail services Deutsche Bahn and SNCF, is also intended to encourage young travellers to choose train travel, and to help build a cultural exchange between the two countries.
