Zimbabwe automates borders

Zimbabwe is in the process of launching an Online Integrated Border Management system across all its entry points.

This is according to Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe, who announced that the government aimed to install the system across all border posts by the end of the year.

The system is now installed and operational at Harare’s Robert Mugabe International Airport, where Kazembe assessed the progress of the system and addressed the media, according to local publication Bulawayo 24 News.

The system matches the faces of travellers with their details and includes data from the civil registry, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Immigration Department.

The goal is to fully automate the border management process, according to Kazembe, to eliminate the need for manual systems or human interaction, which will improve efficiency.

Chief Immigration Officer, Respect Gono, told the Harare Post that all that remained to do was to install E-gates.
