South African travel agents cannot wait until 2021 for borders to open, according to the results of a Travel News survey that saw 680 participants.
We asked you if South Africa could learn from the surge of COVID-19 cases since European countries reopened for tourism, by keeping borders closed for the rest of the year.
72% voted ‘No’ because the travel and tourism sector could not survive until then.
18% said it depended on whether our case numbers dropped significantly in the near future.
Only 10% were in favour of keeping borders closed because it would be too risky to open them.
A report on August 28 (Opening borders: lessons from Europe) weighed in on the issue.
