The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) will host a global summit in March to help restore travel and tourism around the world.

The summit will be hosted in Cancun, Mexico, from March 23-25 in a hybrid format, catering for both live and virtual attendees.

It was delayed from spring 2020 due to COVID-19 and will be held in partnership with the government of Quintana Roo.

Live attendance at the event will be restricted to ensure social distancing, with outdoor sessions included in the programme. World-leading hygiene and safety protocols will be in place throughout the summit to ensure the health of participants, with testing and regular health checks guided by the very latest medical and scientific advice.

“Every aspect of the 20th WTTC Global Summit is being explored to ensure it complies with the world’s best available health and hygiene protocols to show, with best practice, how major conferences can be held safely and securely in the new normal of the COVID-19 world,” said WTTC president and ceo, Gloria Guevara.

There will be up to 20 000 free online registrations available, enabling participants to listen to a range of specially invited international guest speakers headlining the event.

“We must use the global summit to establish a consensus on international co-operation and co-ordination to accelerate the recovery, as well as public/private partnership, and to restore vital public confidence to travel safely once more,” said Gloria.
