Acsa and ATNS up fees

Acsa and Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) will increase their fees this year, by 6,16% and 9,87% respectively.

According to the Airports Company Act: Publication of Airport Charges, published in January, passenger service charges will increase as follows:

  • Passenger service charge per embarking passenger that will disembark in South Africa will increase from R113,80 to R120,81.
  • Passenger service charge per embarking passenger that will disembark in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia or Eswatini will increase from R235,93 to R250,47.
  • Passenger service charge per embarking pax that will disembark in all other states will increase from R310,90 to R330,05.

Additionally, the Air Traffic and Navigation Services Draft from October 2023, determined that the final air traffic service charge increase to be applied would be 9,87% in the 2026/27 financial year.

Aaron Munetsi, CEO of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa, explained to Travel News that the increases had undergone a permission process that had seen rigorous consultations with aviation industry stakeholders.

“During these engagements we meticulously go through each entity’s OPEX and CAPEX budgets. We request for clarity on or justification for any expenses we deem either unnecessary or excessive,” said Munetsi.

“After these consultations, the tariffs are recommended to the applicable Ministers for approval. In instances where the industry does not agree with the proposed increases, we make it known to the Regulating Committee, and after deliberations, the recommendations, including our objections, are presented to the Ministers.”

George Mothema, CEO of the Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa, also confirmed that the approved Acsa and ATNS increases were aligned with the outcomes of regulated permission negotiations.

“The focus now must be on ensuring improved service delivery and infrastructure performance in return for these adjustments,” said Mothema.
