ACSA has restructured its
leadership team in a bid to
improve operational efficiency
and grow its business. The company
has appointed its first ever chief
operating officer, Tebogo Mekgoe,
previously gm of OR Tambo
International Airport.
Tebogo’s role will be to drive
Acsa’s business beyond SA’s
borders. With sustainability a key
point of focus, he says Acsa made
the decision to explore opportunities
around the business development
skills it had acquired in preparing for
the 2010 World Cup. “We realised
that the skills and expertise that
we possess are attractive to the
rest of the continent. We have the
knowledge and capabilities to help
build the infrastructure of other
airports in Africa.”
While the conceptual framework
for Acsa’s next phase of
development, focused on growth
beyond South Africa’s borders, is
already in place, Tebogo’s new
role within the company is to
ensure that the
concept is
effectively
implemented and
that the model
is well-integrated
throughout
the business’s
various
operations.
The company
is currently
involved in the
maintenance
and operation of Brazil’s busiest
international airport, Guarulhos in
São Paulo, as well as the operation
and development of Mumbai
International Airport in India. It
plans to conduct similar operations
in other emerging markets, with
particular emphasis on Africa.
Ultimately, Acsa’s aim is to
become the best in the world at
improving air access to any of the
regions in which it operates, says
Tebogo. He reveals that further
organisational changes are in the
pipeline, predominantly with a focus
on new business investment.
