Air travel round-up: ET to launch Lyon flights

Effective July 2, Ethiopian Airlines will launch thrice-weekly flights to Lyon via Geneva, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Flight ET738 will depart Addis Ababa at 00h10 and, after a one-hour stop-over in Geneva, will arrive in Lyon at 08h15.

The return flight ET739 will depart Lyon at 19h20 and, after a one-hour stop-over in Geneva, will arrive in Addis Ababa at 04h55, the following day.

TK opens its first European lounge

Turkish Airlines opened its first European airport lounge at Edinburgh International Airport on December 10.

Located on Level 2 near gate 16, the lounge will be available to Turkish Airlines business-class passengers, Miles&Smiles members travelling in any class and to travellers with a Paid Lounge membership card.

The lounge, which can accommodate up to 149 travellers, offers guests an open buffet featuring a Turkish pide (flatbread) service at lunch and dinner; a luxury relaxation area with TVs and Wi-Fi; and two prayer rooms. The lounge also includes an accessible restroom for guests with reduced mobility, a baby care room and flight information screens.

Turkish Airlines operates 10 weekly flights between Edinburgh and Istanbul.

QR launches new Saudi route

Qatar Airways has launched three weekly non-stop flights between Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Qatar and Hail International Airport (HAS) in Saudi Arabia.

Departing on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, flight QR1228 departs DOH at 14h20, arriving in HAS at 16h30. The return flight QR1229 departs HAS at 17h30, arriving in DOH at 19h25.

The new route aligns with the airline’s commitment to increase regional connectivity from Africa and other regions to north-central Saudi Arabia.

In addition to HAS, Qatar Airways operates over 150 weekly flights to 12 destinations in Saudi Arabia – Abha, AlUla, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, NEOM, Qassim, Riyadh, Tabuk, Taif, the Red Sea and Tanbu.

EK introduces premium economy on more routes

Emirates announced that its retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft, featuring premium economy seating, will serve flights EK953 and EK954 between Dubai and Beirut from January 6, and flights EK306 and EK307 between Dubai and Beijing from February 1.

The refurbished Boeing 777 features upgraded interiors, including modern colour palettes and wood finishes across all cabins. Each aircraft includes 260 of the latest-generation economy seats, 24 premium economy seats, 40 business-class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, and eight first-class suites.
