Air travel round-up: QR to launch Red Sea flights

On October 21, Qatar Airways will launch three weekly flights from Doha to the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia.

Flights will depart every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

Flight QR1226 will depart Doha at 07h45 and arrive in the Red Sea at 10h45. The return flight QR1227 will depart from the Red Sea at 11h45 and arrive in Doha at 14h15.

EK extends Premium Economy to A380 NYC flights

Emirates’ A380 services from Dubai to New York JFK will all feature premium economy cabins from December 1.

Premium economy will be available on flights EK201, EK202, which serve the Dubai-New York JFK route daily. The aircraft will also operate the airline’s daily flights to Milan, EK205 and EK206.

The re-configured A380 aircraft will offer seats in first class, business class, premium economy and economy class, providing expanded options for customers.

QR expands codeshare with China Southern

Qatar Airways has expanded its codeshare with China Southern Airlines and announced an increase in frequency for its flights between Doha and Beijing.

Starting October 16, Qatar will place its code on China Southern’s three weekly direct flights between Beijing Daxing and Doha.

China Southern will be expanding its code on Qatar Airways-operated flights beyond Doha to 15 destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, including Amman, Athens, Barcelona, Cairo, Dar es Salaam, Madrid and Munich.

Ryanair cuts Spanish flights

Ryanair will cut flights to Spain this winter due to uncompetitive and excessive airport charges implemented by Spanish airport operator AENA.

AENA will implement a 6,6% hike in airline fees from 2026.

Ryanair will close its base in Santiago and stop all flights to Tenerife North airport from the start of this winter, and to Vigo from January next year.

Flights at Zaragoza airport will decrease by 45%, by 16% at Asturias airport and by 2% at Vitoria airport. An additional 36 connections between regional Spain and the Canary Islands will also be cut.
