Air travel round-up: TK aircraft remain grounded

Dozens of Turkish Airlines’ Airbus aircraft will remain grounded until at least mid-2027 due to ongoing delays in the repair of Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines.

The airline began this year with 35 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft out of service, but the figure is expected to increase to 45 by the end of the year, according to Turkiye Today.

EK boosts winter Heathrow schedule

Emirates will up frequencies on its northern winter London Heathrow schedule with six additional flights, starting October 26.

Emirates already flies six times a day to and from London Heathrow using its Airbus A380. The additional flights will operate every day except Friday during the winter period using a Boeing 777-300ER.

Flight EK41 will depart Dubai on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 13h40 and arrive at Heathrow at 17h40. On Thursdays, EK41 will depart Dubai at 12h55 and arrive at Heathrow at 16h55.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays, the return flight EK42 departs Heathrow at 22h35 and arrives in Dubai at 09h35 the next day.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays EK42, departs Heathrow at 21h20 and arrives in Dubai at 08h20 the next day.

On Thursdays EK42 departs Heathrow at 21h20 and arrives in Dubai at 08h20 the next day.

Brussels Airlines added to LH, SQ joint venture

The Lufthansa Group and Singapore Airlines have expanded their joint venture to include Brussels Airlines.

For flights commencing October 26, travellers can book the Brussels Airlines codeshare between Singapore and Brussels on flights operated by Singapore Airlines.

EK introduces new accessibility services

Emirates has introduced new services and products for people with disabilities.

  • The new Accessible & Inclusive Travel Hub on the Emirates website contains sections on all relevant information. Travellers can view and explore sections based on their disability or needs and can search by looking at specific parts of the journey.
  • From November 1, a range of sensory products and toys for customers of all ages offer controlled stimulation for neurodivergent guests.
  • Over 600 movies with ‘Closed Captions’ and 200 movies with ‘Audio Description’. Headphones are also compatible with hearing aids when set to the ‘T’ position.
  • Terminal 3’s smart corridor features self-adjusting cameras for people with mobility issues. Self-service check-in kiosks include text to speech functionality, improved touchscreen usability, Braille and a headphone jack for mobility and sight challenges.
  • A wheelchair-accessible chauffeur vehicle is expected to be introduced by early 2026.

Cathay partners with Uber

Cathay Pacific has partnered with Uber to enable passengers to earn Asia Miles on every Uber Taxi trip they book.

First-time Uber App users will earn 500 extra Asia Miles on their first Uber Taxi trip, while daily trips in Hong Kong earn 20 Asia Miles and trips to and from Hong Kong International Airport earn 40 Asia Miles.

Travellers can link the rewards systems on their Uber mobile application’s Rewards Settings.
