Airbnb announces OMG! fund recipients

Airbnb has selected 100 aspiring designers, architects, DIYers and creators from over 20 countries and regions to bring their fantastic space ideas to life as part of the USD10m (R181m) OMG! Fund.

The judging panel included style icon, Iris Apfel; architectural expert, Koichi Takada; Airbnb Superhost, Kristie Wolfe; and Airbnb Vice President of Experiential Creative Product, Bruce Vaughn. 

Each recipient will receive up to USD100 000 (R1,8m) to make their creations possible and construct their spaces to be guest-ready by summer 2023 as part of Airbnb’s OMG! Category.

The inspiration for the thousands of entries ranged from the depths of the sea to sci-fi novels. Features included stargazing experiences, designs inspired by fruit and wine, use of solar panels for sustainable energy, treehouses and suspended structures, as well as mushroom-inspired listings ready to sprout.
