Bangkok extends nightlife hours, boosts safety

As part of the government’s effort to boost tourism, pubs and bars in three popular entertainment zones in Bangkok will be allowed to stay open until 04h00 to encourage nightlife, reports coconuts.co.

At Si Lom Road, Patpong Road, Royal City Avenue, New Phetchaburi Road, and Ratchadaphisek Road, numerous bars and nightclubs now have extended operating hours.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is implementing stringent measures and initiatives to ensure safety within nightlife zones prone to incidents, reports eturbonews.com.

The BMA Office of Disaster and Mitigation has announced enhanced inspections of entertainment establishments’ safety and fire prevention systems.

Following several incidents in which serving underage visitors resulted in drunk and disorderly conduct, the BMA Health Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Disease Control, announced that they would be scrutinising clubs and pubs’ compliance with the 2008 Alcoholic Beverages Control Act. The Act prohibits the sale of alcohol outside designated hours. It also does not allow the sale of alcohol to anyone under 20 and to those who are already heavily intoxicated.

The BMA’s Traffic and Transport Department has partnered with the Royal Thai Police to install additional AI-equipped security cameras at locations prone to accidents, particularly in areas with newly extended trading hours. City Hall has already installed 63 900 security cameras throughout the city.
