Barcelona reveals plans for Gaudí Year

Barcelona will mark 100 years since the death of Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi, with the opening of a new gallery at Casa Batlló, the first in a series of exhibitions and events celebrating his legacy.

Casa Batlló gallery

Gaudi was commissioned to renovate the residential apartments, Casa Batlló, in the early 1900s. The apartment block is a popular tourist attraction, known for its art nouveau façade. The venue was closed to the public for decades until the recent opening of the gallery on January 31.

The Casa Batlló gallery will host its first two contemporary art exhibitions this year, establishing itself as a new cultural hub in Barcelona. The new space will be accessible to the public either as part of the full Casa Batlló visitor experience or with a standalone ticket.

The gallery will debut with Beyond the Façade, an exhibition by United Visual Artists, the London-based art practice founded by Matt Clark.

Casa Batlló will also host two book launches and a botanical study, as well as sponsor a musical theatre production, ‘Gaudí, the Awakening of a Genius’ in honour of Gaudi’s death centenary.

Sagrada Familia’s Gaudi Year 2026

Sagrada Familia’s celebrations will include concerts, exhibitions, conferences, presentations and masses.

Special events include a conference for the World Congress of Architects, the presentation of the Tour de France teams and several exhibitions around the city to delve deeper into the history and meaning of the Sagrada Família. Other highlights include:

  • On March 19, the basilica will host a concert with the Orfeó Català choir.
  • Between April 27 and July 26, the Palau Robert Gardens will showcase a carefully curated selection of photographs that depict the construction of the Sagrada Familia and the development of Barcelona city.
  • During May, visitors to the basilica will be able to participate in an artistic workshop.
