Blue Marlin set to make a splash

The Blue Marlin in Scottburgh is poised to establish itself as a prestigious landmark on KZN’s sunny South Coast.

The property, operated by the Dream Hotels & Resorts Group, is undergoing extensive renovation and improvement. When it emerges from this transformation, it promises to be very different from the original family hotel of the past.

The property aims to attract local families as well as foreign tourists wanting an all-inclusive beach holiday on a beautiful stretch of coastline with glorious swimming beaches.

Chris Snyman, the Business Development Lead at the group told Travel News that the project at the hotel (now re-named the Blue Marlin All-Inclusive Seascape) is all about elevating the guest experience through extensive renovations and new construction and the creation of a destination that is fun, vibrant, and one that excels in guest engagement and entertainment.

The all-inclusive aspect is an important part of the mix. Said Snyman: “We’re continuing with our all-inclusive model, which means guests enjoy comprehensive packages that cover accommodation, dining, beverages, and a wide range of activities. Standard offerings are included, but guests will still have the option to purchase premium beverages, activities, and excursions if they wish.

“We looked at the market for all-inclusive family holidays and we saw the potential for Blue Marlin. Now we are creating the product to service and drive that demand.”

Apart from refurbishment of the 100 rooms at the property, new features at the Blue Marlin All-Inclusive Seascape are:

  • Larger outdoor areas; two large, new swimming pools (one heated) with rim flow and martini seating; exciting waterslides for various age groups; a pool area with a new bar and a cosy outdoor firepit perfect for evening sundowners.
  • The putt-putt course is being turned into a beautifully landscaped Adventure Golf course. A new multipurpose court for sports, a brand-new dive centre, and retail space are in the pipeline.
  • There’s a multi-age kids’ club for toddlers and young children, to be headed by a team of child-care specialist staff. And a Teen Zone will keep the older kids happy.
  • A new adults-only club and relaxation area and a state-of-the-art gym means adults have their refuges. The current spa will see significant upgrades with a steam room, Jacuzzi, wet room, and an outdoor relaxation area. This high-class facility will likely be a major attraction for the property.
  • The restaurant and terrace will have themed cuisine evenings and entertainment.

“We’re enhancing the overall experience with a variety of on-site activities, daily entertainment, and off-site excursions. We’ve placed a lot of focus on upskilling and training our associates and will have an expanded team to service every guest’s need and make the property a true destination paradise.”

Total investment for the project is around R14 million. “We have also significantly increased the operational budget to allow for all the new service offerings, all while bringing a value product to the market,” said Snyman.

Early bookings for the New Blue Marlin All Inclusive Seascape are already available.

“We’re targeting both domestic and international travellers. There’s been huge demand and interest in our new all-inclusive beach hotel concept, particularly from our large domestic client base. Our aim is to bring a fresh holiday experience to our local guests and reinvigorate the South Coast offering.”

The property will still host events and conferences with all-inclusive pricing, making it easy for companies to budget for their corporate events for up to 80 pax.
