Breaking news: SAA announces interim ceo

Current SAA gm of operations, Zukisa Ramasia, has been named interim ceo of the airline.

The board has announced that it is searching for a permanent ceo, casting the net locally and internationally.

Former ceo, Vuyani Jarana, asked the board to relieve him of his three-month notice period – due to end in August – and as such, Zukisa will take over the reins from June 10. Vuyani has committed to assist in the handover process where necessary.

SAA board spokesperson, Thandeka Mgoduso, has assured eTNW that the “ball will not be dropped.” She says: “We take our relationship with our customers very seriously.”

The board has asked Vuyani if he would consider continuing as ceo, but Vuyani has maintained his resignation after discussions with the board.

SAA board chairperson, JB Magwaza, says: “I’ve never come across a person as committed to his job as Mr Jarana. It’s really a pity that he leaves us in this regard.”

In other news, Adam Voss has been appointed ceo of SAA Technical.

Responding to questions regarding possible retrenchments, Thandeka says: “We are examining the organisational structure to ensure the most effective structure is in place for our LTTS (Long-term Turnaround Strategy). This is not the only area we are looking at for cutting costs. We look at the organisation holistically and if the reduction of staff numbers for efficiencies is a step that needs to be taken, then due process will be followed.”
