Strike action at several German airports is expected to cause major travel disruptions today.
The strike is set to take place between 14h00 and 20h00 local time.
In a statement, Frankfurt airport have said that the security checkpoints outside the transit area at the airport will not be staffed for the duration of the strike. Passengers departing from Frankfurt will not be able to use the security checkpoints to get to their flights and are advised against going to the airport.
This does not apply to passengers transiting through Frankfurt, although they are warned of delays and disruptions as well.
Lufthansa passengers departing from Frankfurt can immediately rebook their flights free of charge to a date between January 11 and 20. The airline will publish flight cancellations on its website on Sunday afternoon. From this date on, online rebooking will be also possible. Passengers who have entered their contact data online will be actively informed about their flight status.
Qatar Airways has also announced the cancellation of flights QR 0067, QR 0070 and QR 0068 flying between Doha and Frankfurt today, and has instructed customers to check the ‘manage booking tab’ on its homepage for further updates.
Munich Airport simply asked that customers check the status of their flight before heading to the airport today.
