Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has advised hikers to exercise caution in the Fish River Canyon, which officially reopened its hiking season on May 1.

The season had been postponed due to unusually high water levels.

“While water levels remain high, the route has been deemed safe for hiking provided participants take the necessary precautions,” NWR said in a statement reversing the postponement.

Only experienced hikers, or those accompanied by expert guides, should attempt the trail, advised NWR.
