DA questions VFS exclusivity

SHADOW Minister of
Home Affairs, Haniff
Hoosen, has highlighted
the consequences of South
Africa’s exclusivity contract
with visa company VFS.
He said the contract could
make hundreds of private
immigration practitioners in
the country redundant.
Haniff suggested that
the Department of Home
Affairs would have to
find a continued role for
the hundreds of private
immigration practitioners.
“One possible approach
is to allow a partnership
to be created between
VFS Global and private
immigration practitioners or
expand the visa facilitation
industry to allow for more
than one service provider.
A similar model has been
explored and implemented in
Australia with somesuccess.
Monopolising the industry
in South Africa will have the
opposite effect.”
