Delta Flight Products, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, recently unveiled a prototype of a new wheelchair-friendly seat at the annual Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.
The seat has been developed in partnership with UK-based Air4All to allow passengers using a powered wheelchair to remain in their chairs for an entire flight, by converting a standard seat to accommodate a wheelchair restraint. The seat design allows passenger comfort and safety through access to a headrest, centre console tray tables, and an adjustable cocktail table.
President of Delta Flight Products, Rick Salanitri, said: “Air4All is collaborating with DFP and our strong production and manufacturing capabilities, to explore new ways to deliver equal access to comfort, safety, and dignity for all customers. This patented design offers new possibilities for customers with disabilities to enjoy a travel experience they truly deserve.”
After the exhibition, the seat will be sent for final design and validation, testing and certification.
