DOH rolls out biometric boarding

Hamad International Airport has launched a biometric travel system that allows passengers to move from check-in to boarding using facial recognition instead of presenting travel documents.

Developed in partnership with Qatar Airways and SITA, the Fast Pass system has been rolled out across more than 700 touchpoints.

Passengers can enrol via the Qatar Airways mobile app during check-in or at self-service kiosks in the terminal.

Once enrolled, facial recognition is used for check-in, bag drop, security screening and boarding.

“The way people move through airports is changing, and trusted digital identity is at the centre of it,” says Selim Bouri, SITA’s President for the Middle East, Africa and Turkey. He says the roll-out is expected to make passenger journeys smoother while allowing travellers to remain in control of their data.

In the future, the system is expected to be extended to Qatar Airways transfer passengers as well as other interested airlines operating from Hamad International Airport.
