DUBAI will introduce a
‘Tourism Dirham’ tax on
accommodation from
March 31.
The charge will apply to
guests staying in holiday
accommodation in Dubai,
including hotels, hotel
apartments, guesthouses
and holiday homes.
The charge will be
between AED7 (R21) and
AED20 (R59) per room, per
night, depending on the
accommodation category
and rating. The levy will
be collected by the hotel
at the time of departure
and will be reected on
the client’s invoice as
a separate line item on
check out.
All travellers to Dubai
will be liable for the levy,
irrespective of what visa
they are travelling on.
Dubai’s Department of
Tourism and Commerce
Marketing said in a
statement that the
introduction of the levy
was based on global
benchmarking and that
funds raised would
support the international
promotion and marketing
of the Emirate and drive
the growth of its tourism
and trade industries.
