EasyJet COO, Peter Bellew, resigned on Friday, July 1, as the carrier was cancelling thousands of summer flights due to staff shortages, and facing renewed industrial action in its Spanish operations, where workers are threatening to strike on certain days until the end of July.

CEO, Johan Lundgren, says: "I am pleased that operations will be in the very capable hands of David Morgan, who can move seamlessly into this role having previously led the operation as Interim COO throughout 2019. David has significant experience and deep knowledge of the business and operation and will provide strong leadership for the airline this summer."

Bellew was previously COO of Ryanair from 2017 until 2019, when the Irish airline sued him for stepping down in favour of easyJet, claiming a non-compete clause in his contract had been broken by his move to the rival low-cost carrier. The Irish High Court ultimately ruled in Bellew’s favour in this case.
