Emirates bans pagers and walkie-talkies

Emirates has banned pagers and walkie-talkies on its planes in both checked-in and carry-on baggage.

In a travel alert posted on October 4, the airline announced that passengers travelling to, from or via Dubai are now prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies.

“Such items found in passengers’ hand luggage or checked baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police,” the airline said.

This follows the use of explosives hidden in communication devices such as these to kill 37 people and wound nearly 3 000 people in Lebanon last month. The pagers and radios belonged to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, who blamed Israel for the attacks, as reported by Le Monde.
