Emirates simplifies name correction procedure

Emirates has simplified its name correction procedure and has reduced the fee from $50 (R700) to $30 (R418).

The simpler name change process includes the following:

  • Creating a new booking with the correct information.
  • Issuing an electronic miscellaneous document (EMD) for the name correction fee of $30 on the new booking, which applies to all name changes, including maiden name changes.
  • Issuing an EMD of $20 to cover the name change admin fee, which is mandatory for all name changes.
  • Emailing the new and old booking to Emirates to merge the seats if applicable.
  • Issuing the new ticket with the correct name using the old ticket number and Passenger Name Record.

Alternatively, travellers are advised to refund the current ticket, lessen the applicable penalty fee, make a new booking and issue a new ticket on the new routing with the correct name.

For name changes from maiden to married, new bookings must be created with the new name. Agents are required to collect name correction fees where applicable and the EMD must be issued on the original booking. If the seat is no longer available, the passenger’s marriage certificate and copy of original and new passport should be sent to the local Emirates office. The airline will then assist with merging the seats from the booking to the new one.
