New train to connect Tokyo airports
Keisei Electric Railway plans to introduce a new limited express train connecting Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports in the 2030s.
As an initial step, the company will launch a limited express service between Narita Airport and Oshiage Station in fiscal 2028, with some trains continuing on to the Asakusa subway line and Keikyu’s Airport Line to provide direct services between the two airports.
Keisei Electric Railway’s existing express train service links the two busy airports in about 100 minutes, with the new service expected to reduce the time significantly. The existing service will continue after the launch of the new express train.
Japan unveils new overnight train
JR East has unveiled its latest overnight express train, Luna Azul, which is expected to enter service in spring 2027.
From spring to autumn, the train will operate two weekly round-trips, connecting Tokyo’s Shinagawa and Aomori stations. The journey will range between 12 and 15 hours one-way, with room for 125 passengers.
During winter, the train will operate six round-trips a week during the day from Shinagawa Station to Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station in eastern Japan’s Gunma Prefecture. One-way trips will take up to three hours, accommodating 150 people.
The train will feature five types of private compartments with fully reclining seats and a dedicated shared lounge car.
