Energy-efficient MSC Euribia named

MSC officially named its energy-efficient flagship MSC Euribia on June 8 at a ceremony in Copenhagen Port, presented by Danish actress Sarah Grünewald.

The event included live entertainment by French DJ Bob Sinclair, ribbon-cutting and the breaking of champagne on the bow, a gourmet gala dinner and a look at the ship’s design and world-class guest experiences.

These include the Carousel Lounge, the Big Band at Sea, a seven-room children and teenagers’ area and lab aimed at educating them about the environment, 10 dining venues, the Street. 2023 art gallery, five pools, the coral-themed Ocean Cay AquaPark, 945-seat Delphi theatre, 21 bars and lounges and retail and entertainment centre, Galleria Euribia.

MSC Euribia has since completed a preliminary nett-zero emission journey from St Nazaire to Copenhagen using bio-LNG and applying the mass balance system that reduces carbon emissions.

The ship’s design has achieved an IMO Energy Efficiency Design Index of 55% higher than required, emitting 19% fewer greenhouse gas emissions per passenger per day than its sister ships, and 44% less than those built only 10 years ago. It is capable of running on LNG and on low-sulphur marine gasoil.

The trailblazing ship, adorned with a fresco entitled #SaveTheSea, has been designed to accommodate future retrofits and innovations in sustainability such as carbon-neutral synthetic fuels as soon as they are available at scale.
