The Government of the Republic of the Maldives and the Government of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia have signed a bilateral Air Services Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement enables airlines from both countries to operate direct air services.
"It will create an opportunity for Ethiopian Airlines to operate air services via Maldives to Colombo, Perth, Sydney, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington. This will expand the international reach of Ethiopia's aviation sector while strengthening trade, tourism and economic ties," the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.
However, the agreement does not confirm the launch of any new routes or provide a timeline for the commencement of services.
