Last week, the European Parliament voted to maintain the current three-hour flight delay compensation threshold following a review of EU air passenger rights.
Some EU ministers were pushing for compensation to apply only after a four- to six-hour delay and setting the compensation between €300 (R5 715) and €500 (R9 525). However, Parliament has voted to keep the delay window at three hours and compensation at between €300 and €600 (R11 430).
The vote also backed changes allowing passengers to carry an item of personal hand luggage at no additional cost, and scrapping the additional fees some travellers have to pay when correcting passenger name errors or for checking in for their flight.
Parliament also approved measures enabling travellers with disabilities to receive compensation, rerouting and assistance if they miss a flight due to inadequate airport support.
