Fastjet’s new JNB schedule – will it serve pax better?

FASTJET will amend its

Johannesburg to Dar es

Salaam schedule in June,

making it a turnaround flight.

But whether or not the timing

is ideal for passengers, is

debatable.

The new schedule is:

H1 6181/FN 201 DAR JNB

20h30 23h15 (Monday,

Wednesday, Friday);

H1 6182/FN 202 JNB DAR

00h05 04h40 (Tuesday,

Thursday, Saturday).

Flights currently operate on

Mondays, Wednesdays and

Fridays.

The Dar es SalaamJohannesburg

sector will

continue to operate on

those days but, from June

1, the Johannesburg-Dar es

Salaam flight will depart just

after midnight on Tuesdays,

Thursdays and Saturdays.

Check-in for these flights will

take place before midnight on

Mondays, Wednesdays and

Fridays.

Richard Bodin, fastjet’s

chief commercial officer, said

the reason for the change

in schedule was to improve

connectivity with fastjet’s

other destinations in Tanzania.

“Passengers now have

the opportunity to fly to

Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and

Mbeya without having to

stop over in Dar es Salaam.

Fastjet has moved the DARJNB

flight to make room for

new destinations. The airline

is increasing the utilisation of

its aircraft [three A319s] and

therefore increasing the night

flying to accommodate,” says

Richard.

But the change in schedule

will be inconvenient for

travellers, says Rachael

Penaluna, business manager

of Sure Maritime Travel.

“Passengers arriving in Dar

es Salaam at 04h40 in the

morning will have a long wait

to connect and will have to

book and pay for a hotel room

from the night before to check

in that early.

“The Tanzanite lounge is a

departure lounge airside, so

passengers arriving cannot

use this facility.”

She adds that SAA offers

a better schedule on the

route with flights arriving at

13h55 and 18h50 every day

of the week.

Fastjet’s new schedule

is already available via the

fastjet website and call

centre. When booking in the

GDS, agents should note that

fastjet is represented by Hahn

Air’s H1 flight code but, within

the airport environment as

well as on all tickets, fastjet’s

FN code is displayed.
