Royal Caribbean Group’s new Galveston terminal, opening on November 9, will be the world’s first to generate 100% of its energy requirement through on-site solar panels.
The new cruise terminal at the Port of Galveston is said to be the most environmentally friendly in the US and can handle up to 630 000 guests annually.
“We are focused on innovating across all aspects of our company, especially in our work to advance sustainability in the communities we visit,” says Jason Liberty, President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group. “We deeply value both the oceans we sail and the communities we visit and operate in, and the modern design and development features at our terminal in Galveston will work in service of both.”
The US$125m (R2,28bn), 14 988sqm terminal can handle up to 630 000 guests per year. The opening of the terminal will mark the maiden call in Galveston of RCI’s Oasis Class Allure of the Seas.
