France has announced a ban on smoking on beaches and tourists should be aware that this is part of a wider campaign to help smokers give up the habit.
By mid-2024, France's four-year anti-tobacco plan will see smoking prohibited outside schools and in state-owned forests and green areas, reports euronews.com.
Local councils have already designated 7 200 tobacco-free zones, including woodlands in southern France.
Details of the fines have yet to be released.
Other popular destinations that have strict smoking regulations include Mexico, Ireland, Greece, Malta, Hungary, Costa Rica, Barcelona, Colombia, Iran, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Nepal and Thailand.
