Fresh, sustainable amenities come to City Lodge

City Lodge Hotel Group (CLHG) says it takes sustainability seriously, and with sustainability having become such a byword among corporate companies lately, the group has used the lockdown period wisely and put its money where its mouth is.

The group has engaged in a project to strip out single-use plastics from guest rooms across all its brands. At the same time, products have been replaced with subtly fragranced, high-quality personal care items, in collaboration with the Bespoke Amenities Company.

Hair&Body Zero Bars replace liquid shampoo and body wash in bottles, Hand Zero Bars (with argan and avo oils) replace plastic-wrapped soap bars; body cream (incorporating shea butter) is packed in recyclable aluminium tubes, replacing plastic bottles, and shower caps made from corn starch replace plastic caps. Non-recyclable plastic ‘flow wrap’ commonly used to pack these articles is no longer used.

The group will also have ecologically correct shaving and dental kits, vanity and sewing kits available at reception.

CLHG has 8 070 hotel rooms in Africa and this initiative means that landfills are being spared 700 000 plastic bottles, 1,4 million flow wraps, 68 000 plastic tubes and 53 000 pieces of non-recyclable card yearly.
