Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia enters final phase

After more than 140 years of construction, Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia is set to reach a major milestone in 2026 with the completion of its final tower, in time for the centenary of the death of its architect, Antoni Gaudí.

Construction of the central tower, known as the Tower of Jesus Christ, began on October 30, marking the final phase of the basilica’s exterior works.

The interior and façade will continue to undergo upgrades and maintenance over the next decade.

The Council for the Promotion and Dissemination of the Work of Gaudí, an advisory body to the Catalan Ministry of Culture, has announced that next year will be used to celebrate the creation and its architect, and will be known as Gaudí Year 2026.

It will include a series of events and celebrations showcasing Gaudí’s work, including concerts, exhibitions, conferences, presentations and masses.
