Gen Z hungry for global travel

With a new year comes a new generation of travellers. Generation Z, born between the late 90s and early 00s, is coming of age, with travel at the front of their minds.

A report by AirportParkingReservations.com set out to reveal the most popular global destinations for young people by analysing top city destinations, ranked by market research company Euromonitor International, for their attractions, restaurants, safety ratings, and social media influence. It found that more than half (65%) of Gen Z ranked travel and seeing the world as the most important way to spend their money, and 90% admitted that their international travel choices were influenced by social media.

London was rated the top global destination for Gen Z travel, scoring 7,79/10 by APR. This was thanks to the city receiving the highest number of Instagram hashtags (158 million), plus 42 billion views on TikTok. The city has also seen over 200 000 Google searches in the last year.

Barcelona received a 7,26/10, based on a high safety rating and a large number of restaurants, attractions, and tours per 100 000 people. Dubai was next with 7,1/10 – the city with the most TikTok views by far, at an impressive 92 billion. Dubai has also received over 123 million hashtags on Instagram.

Just behind those is Paris with 7,07/10; and Amsterdam with 7/10. Amsterdam offers the cheapest average hostel prices among the top-five global cities, while still offering the highest number of attractions per 100 000 people.
