Germany is set to welcome South Africans and Namibians from August 1.

SA and Namibia are being downgraded from the classification: virus variant areas to that of: areas of high risk.

This means that fully vaxxed travellers will no longer be liable for quarantine on arrival,  and for the unvaxxed, quarantine will be 10 days instead of 14 and can be ended after just five days with a negative PCR test.

Additionally, there is no transport ban on travellers from high-risk areas who do not have German or EU citizenship.

Dr André Schulz, Lufthansa gm Southern Africa and East Africa, said this news would have a significant impact on the airline’s day-to-day business. “It is welcomed by us all with great excitement and elation. Based on these new regulations, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group will continuously re-evaluate and adjust our capacity to meet the demand according to our customers’ needs.”
